But here it is anyway. Unbelievable! One of the largest freshwater fish caught in the world was netted in Thailand. This fish ended up dying before they could release it back into the water, but they chopped it up and gave it to the people in the city. I was always told by my grandpa to use hotdogs to catch catfish, but in this case you might need a dog as bait. Now, I understand that I'm not a GM or MLB Owner, but when you are trying to better your team, wouldn't it make sense to trade the players that stink and keep the good ones? I understand that Sheff is making good money, but he along with Jeter and Matsui have been your only consistant offense the entire season. Or could it be that the Yanks are going to rid themselves of all their high dollar players and actually rebuild like the Yanks of the 80's? Wouldn't it be great to see the Yanks in last place for awhile! Good luck Sheffield, go to the other NY team that is over the hill and throw punches at their fans.

Rookie of the Year...

Now that the draft has been completed, who is your preseason pick for ROY? I gotta go with Daron Williams from Illinois, who was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 3rd pick. He's going to a team that he will start for right away and he's going to a team with few established big men for him to dish passes to. I think he went into the best situation as a rookie point guard. Bogut could have better numbers since he's in milwaukee or marvin in atlanta, but the Jazz have a better chance to make the playoffs. So hear ye hear ye... Daron Williams for Rookie of the Year!

NBA Draft Tonight...

It's been awhile, but I am back. I am happy to post that things are looking positive for the San Antonio Spurs as they lead the series 2-0. I grew up loving the Spurs for 2 reasons, one... the Cavs weren't very good. Second... David Robinson! It's hard not to like David Robinson, plus the Admiral is a committed believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. Well, David retired, but didn't leave us Spurs fans hanging. In comes Tim Duncan and like Robinson it's hard not to like Duncan. Tim is arguably the best player in the entire NBA, however, you never see him on ESPN for getting into fights or technicals or causing problems off the court. Tim Duncan has a great focus on life and on his career in the NBA, so I tip my hat to the Spurs and wish them luck as they finish out this NBA Finals run.

Iron Mike Tyson...

I support Iron Mike Tyson as much as the next person, because he's the only boxer that demands the attention of the World. The REDHOT Phoenix Suns went into the West Finals as good as anyother team in the NBA. However, they totally collapsed to the Spurs as Tim Duncan leads the Spurs to a 4-1 win in the series. The world deserved to see an edge of the seat game 7 in that series to bring the fans back to the NBA, but that just didn't happen. Once again sports prove that good defense beats good offense the majority of the time.

Doylestown Strikes Gold...

Doylestown Chippewa (Wayne County Athletic League) took large strides in the offseason for their football program when they hired former NFL and Browns punter Bryan Wagner. Some of you know that I played football in the WCAL and against Doylestown. They had 2 good years during my highschool tenure, but they have never been know as High School Football Powerhouses. I am not sure if this means Chippewa will contend with the 3 Perennial Powers (Dalton, Smithville, and Waynedale) each year, but as you can read in the article, their roster numbers have already jumped. I am happy for Doylestown, you need all the help you can get! I am not really sure what the Team President does, but I don't see Brown having the power to just throw James to the curb. The Cavaliers are talking about hiring Danny Ferry as the new GM, which I thought was the same thing as the President, but I guess not. Anyway, it's not as if Brown is the dictator of the organization. I think he has the potential to help Mike Brown develop as a coach and has the ability to bring in great talent in the free agency. So, I welcome Mr. Larry Brown with arms wide open.

Brown's Company...

It's been reported that Larry Brown will except the General Managers position with the Cleveland Cavaliers for next season. This news was shared with NBA sources shortly after Mike Brown, Pacers ex-assistant coach signed on as the new Cavaliers head coach. My opinion, we now have some names to help the franchise. Yeah, it's only been 1 game in the Eastern Conference Finals, but geesh, the Pistons are solid the whole way through their lineup. Shaq's injured and Wade's young, so I pick the Pistons to win in 5 or 6. Then you got the Suns vs. Spurs. I feel the Spurs win that series and they get beat by the Pistons, but if somehow the Suns pull it off, I feel the Suns could be the team to beat the Pistons. So long Reggie Miller, I know it will hard to say goodbye to the NBA and the fans and it's a rough life trying to spend the millions of dollars you've made in the NBA. A little side note, I have never been a Reggie Miller fan, don't hate him, but never a big fan. Plus, it's good to see another star leave the NBA without a title. Reggie you can thank Ron Artest for not giving you one last chance. Not that you would have beat the Heat anyway if you would have gotten past the Pistons. But since my boy Sir Charles Barkley got stiffed from a title I have enjoyed watching other NBA stars leave without such luck. AKA Karl Malone and John Stockton, and now Reggie Miller. In John 6:35, Jesus tells us that He is the bread of life. I look at this pyramid and I put sports somewhere in the Milk/Meat level. I love sports and I love to play sports, but sports are not my bread. I don't need sports to live. What I need is the bread of life, I need Jesus Christ in order to make it throughout the day. So, yeah I created a BLOG to talk sports, because I love sports, but my first love and true passion is Jesus Christ. What is the bread of your life? And does the bread of your life get the most servings (time).

Rocket Milestone...

Love him or hate him, Roger Clemens has great stuff. The NBA season is long and somewhat unexciting, but the Playoffs seem to keep my attention. Sterling alone on the couch and I feel like I need to spend a few moments in reflection on the lives of my 2 grandfather's. You see I have only lost 2 people in my life that have had a great amount of significance to me. Most recently on Sept. 17, 2003 I lost my Grandpa Franks, who had been battling the last 10-15 years with heart problems. It's will soon be 2 years since he has gone to be with the Lord in heaven, but it seems like he's been gone much longer than that. I miss him very much and the joy that he brought to the lives of everyone he was in contact with. I know he's in a far better place today, because my grandpa Cloyd E. Franks was a great man of God and a staple in the church of the nazarene in orrville, but yet there are days and times here on earth that I still miss him and wish he were here to be apart of what's going on. Such as Aug. 6, 2005 when I get the wonderful opportunity to marry the love of my life Bethany Anderson, I just wish he could be there for that wonderful day. Grandpa Franks loved Beth like his own granddaughter and excited about the relationship that Beth and I had together. I know that no one likes it to rain on their wedding day, but if it would sprinkle just a little bit, I would know it was Grandpa shedding a tear of joy for Beth and I.
My other grandfather, Grandpa Russell J. Nussbaum passed on February 27, 1998. I will remeber that date for the rest of my life. For those of you who don't know me very well don't know that this day is also my birthday. Grandpa Nussbaum left earth to go home with his Savior Jesus Christ on my 16th birthday. Usually the 16th birthday is extra special for guys, because they have a feeling or a sense of independence that comes with getting a driver's license. For me that birthday will never be remembered that way. I always remember coming home from school that day and seeing an unusual pick-up truck sitting in the driveway up by grandpa and grandma's house. When I get in the house I was greeted by my Uncle Jim Garrett and my mom. Uncle Jim was a member of my mom's side of the family and he usually didn't stop by, so this seemed strange. I don't remember anybody else being in the house besides the three of us, but I can remember mom telling me that Grandpa had had a massive heart attack and he had been taken to the hospital. At this point, they weren't sure if he would make it or not. You see Grandpa went to the hospital alive after having the first heart attack, but while in the ER, he had another massive heart attack and the doctor's weren't able to revive him. I can remember going into Dunlap Memorial and being there with the family. For a 16 year old, I hardly knew what to think at first, it really took a day or two for it all to sink in that Grandpa had really passed on.
Well anyway, why am I posting this in a Blog that I usually waste space talking about useless sports opinions? That's a good question, but it's been good for me to revisit the lives of both of my grandfathers this morning. I think what got me thinking about all of this was the fact that two girls in my youth group (sisters) lost their grandfather today and everytime I hear about someone losing a grandfather I take the opportunity to reflect back on the lives of two very important men in my life. Thanks Grandpa Nussbaum and Grandpa Franks for the legacy that you've left for me and all of my cousins! We all miss the both of you!

3 Days to Go...

Time is running out, and Aaron Rodgers stock is dropping with each minute. This is one of my favorite sporting events of the entire year. 2 days, 7 rounds, trades...etc. It's a GM's Christmas!! I just love watching the draft and this year I have a good feeling, actually the best feeling I've had since the Browns have returned in '99 about the draft. I think with the administration the Browns have that we should get 7-8 quality players in this years draft. I look for the Browns to begin a new era this season and it will start with the draft! Saturday can't come soon enough for me.

Big Things Expected in the Off-Season

Here's the man in charge of the Cavaliers. Mr. Gilbert, here's some information that you should take because it's like gold for you. Do what it takes in the offseason to make the Cavaliers legitimate contenders. Because if you don't keep Mr. James happy and he forces himself out of Cleveland, then you are going to have a lot of unhappy people ready to restart public hangings. So please spend some money wisely this offseason, pick up some good coaches and a quality GM. As if the Ron Artest brawl wasn't enough, we now have baseball fans once again getting involved in the games. The only positive thing about all of this is that it was a Boston fan hitting a Yankee. So, that's good. But nonetheless, fans listen to me! Stay in the stands at all time and do not enter the field of play, it's only common sense. Ebay as much as I love it, has truly changed the world and not necessarily in a positive way. Nowadays people will auction off anything they think will bring in the $$$. I know it's game 7 of the 162 game season, but I think this series and game are much more important than that. Cleveland enters into this game at 3-3, Chicago 4-2. So, they are only a game out of 1st, but I think it's important for Cleveland to get into first place as soon as possible and then not look back. If you remember the teams of the 90s, they were up by 20 games by the All-Star break. Cleveland needs to get that kind of lead, so that the other teams begin to look at next year and give up on this year. Let's GO TRIBE!!!

Tiger Woods is the Yankees of golf

To me, cheering on Tiger Woods is like calling the Yankees in baseball, my team. At least we didn't get stuck with this guy. Tim Couch at least got us to the playoffs one year. Smith couldn't even start for the Bengals. Think about that draft class of QB's real quick. Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper, Cade McCown, and Donovan McNabb. Of those 5 QB's that made it a SUPERSTAR draft only 2 of them have turned into superstar qb's. The sad thing is that they weren't even close to the first 2 drafted. I hope the Browns get it right this time, unless they feel neither Smith nor Rodgers are good enough.

FINAL FOUR

Well, it's finally down to four teams in March Maddness. He would change my entire post about the future of the Cavaliers. Here's what we would have to do if PJ came to Cleveland. We all know that PJ runs the Triangle offense. We also know that he doesn't need a dominate center either. So, we could release Z in the offseason. Then we would have the money to go after Ray Allen. We would then have LeBron, Allen and Gooden to run the Triangle. Plus I believe Anderson Varejan could play center for a team running the Triangle. Plus, he is a great rebounder, which is what his role would be anway. So, Mr. Paxson go get Phil Jackson and make him a 15 time NBA Champion! I wouldn't mind 3 rings in Cleveland!

The Ohio State University

This Blog is for Julie Davis, who is obviously the #1 reader of my Blog. It's gonna be all about OSU. So, what's the deal with Ohio State lately? Yeah, of course I know they won the National Championship in 2002, but that is just about it. Here's Ohio State's biggest problem, they have no true identity. They can't decide wether they are a football school or basketball school. They haven't gotten anywhere close to repeating their 2002 "fluke" season and their basketball program has a long way to go to get back to the days of Michael Redd and Scoonie Penn. The 3 most important people to these two teams have been under scrutiny the past year. The AD retires or is fired, Jim O'Brien the former basketball coach is fired for money issues and now Tressel's name has been tainted through this entire Clarett scandal. How much worse could it get in Columbus? I am sure we'll see in the days ahead! All his lies and his cheating may finally have gotten the upper hand on Mr. Bonds. Did Barry use steriods? Probably so. Are steriods cheating? Yes. Is Barry talented? You betcha! No matter what comes from all this steriod junk, Barry still deserves to be in the elite group of players in the MLB. Barry Bonds is a great player with or without steriods. I just hope that he doesn't go out this way. So, my plea to Barry, and I know you read my BLOG too... Don't go out like this... They are already making moves! It's good to see that my opinion is so well respected! Anyway, times of change are here for the Cavs and now we can get out of the Silas Era and into a mindset of Championships! Here's your next step Mr. Paxson: Go get either Flip Saunders or Phil Jackson. I wouldn't be surprised if PJ woundn't want to come to C-Town, simply because his only reason for taking teams is if they have the #1 player or players in the league. AKA Jordan or Shaq/Kobe. However, he would change my plan for offseason moves, because PJ doesn't want a great Center, but 3 guys that can run the Triangle Offense. So, go out and get RAY ALLEN!!!! He and LeBron along with Gooden could run the Triangle, plus Anderson Varejean would be the perfect Center for PJ's offense! So, that solves it. Get ur dun Paxson!

Paxson get LeBron some help, please!!!

I am sure most of you saw that LeBron dropped 56 pts. tonight versus the Toronto Raptors. The sad thing is they still lost the game, because there is nobody that can shoot consistantly to go along with James. Here are a couple of suggestions Mr. Paxson. You need to get one of the following 3 SG's in the offseason. Michael Redd, Ray Allen or Joe Johnson. Redd or Johnson will probably be in our range financially. You also need to resign the Big Z. Lastly, you need to cut McInnis or Jay Mac, whatever you call him. I call him Mr. Inconsistant! You can address the PG position with the draft. Can O.J. Mayo go pro after his sophomore year of high school? That would be nice! There should be several quality PG's available even towards the bottom of the 1st round. Think about it Paxson!

NFL DRAFT '05

It's good to see a great Michigan talent finally get some quality recognition. So I will give it my attention here on the BLOG. Who do you take? Shaq, the most dominate player in the NBA who has just surpassed his peak and is on the slow decline towards retirement. Or do you take the young, arrogant, confident and controversial Kobe Bryant. Who went from the NBA boy toy to the NBA joke to society. With all of those negative comments, Kobe is still however the most clutch shooter at the end of the game since Michael Jordan. Once deemed the next MJ, he has since come up short of his airness. He however has played a remarkable career thus far. Will Kobe ever win a championship without Shaq? I doubt it, but will Shaq ever win a championship without Kobe? That same doubt creeps into my mind. The breakup of these two fine megastars was envitable, but either way their ship had sailed. So as the Kobe vs. Shaq battle takes place tonight, remember that in the grand scheme of things this battle is hardly a war. It is nothing more than a few old warriors doing battle over a treasure that is no longer in sight.

OHSAA Boys Basketball

This weekend is the Boys Basketball State Playoffs. I will be attending all 12 games, so I am very excited. However, there are some issues that need to be dealt with sooner more than later. What is the deal with private schools these days? I have no problem with a student going to a private school because of the quality of education. However, when schools abuse their open enrollment to better their sports teams I have a problem. For example there is a team in Columbus, Columbus Africentric Secondary, who is in the final four in Div. 4. This team WON the Columbus City league, which is comprised of mainly Div. 1 teams. How can this private school be considered Div. 4 when they are better than most Div. 1 teams. The rule in Ohio is that if you transfer from one public school to another you must sit out 1 year of athletics. Obviously if you family moves into a new district that role doesn't apply, but this is what Ohio has done to keep students from transfering to a nearby school for better sports. But the sad things is that if I live near a private school I can do so with no atheletic punishment. Explain that one to me. Anyway, when is the OHSAA going to get this stuff straightened out? You really have 1 or 2 options. One would be to put private schools in a Division of their own or the second option would be to put them all in Div. 1 with public schools. Please OHSAA get it RIGHT!!!

The Browns offseason moves

So far the Browns have managed to pick up a solid veteran QB, 2 solid offensive guards, a nose tackle, a linebacker, a cornerback, and a punter. How much more do the Browns need to do? What else do they need to address through either free agency and/or the draft.
Here's what I think they should do. They have the 3rd pick in the draft. First I would try to trade that pick to a team with 2 lower first round picks (i.e. San Diego) Then we could go after Alex Barron (LT) and Channing Crowder (LB). We would then have the 2nd pick of the 2nd round and there is a great possibility we could steal Charlie Frye there. That would address 3 of our major concerns in the 3 draft picks. There have been rumors that the Browns could take a DE Spears from LSU with the 3rd pick, but I think if you draft with the 3rd pick you take either Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith or Ronnie Brown. However, if the Browns are sold on Frye being as good as Rodgers or Smith then I might think WR, RB, or DE with the 3rd overall pick.
